Artist Statement My job was to create a zentangle and incorporate an animal of my choice. My animal choice was an elephant because not only is it my favorite animal, but to me it symbolizes strength. The subject of the whole project was creating a zentangle. It allows you to let your creativity flow and draw different patterns without erasing, you just draw patterns and don't stop. The elements and principles used are line, value, pattern, shape, and repetition, etc. These played a major role as many of the patterns were repeated. Darker tones and lighter tones were used to emphasis certain areas etc. I created my art by first sketching in my sketchbook and then drew it on my final paper with pencil. Then I created the patterns and then traced everything out with sharpie (thin and thick). I also used the zentangle website to see patterns. I got the idea of creating an elephant from myself. It's my favorite animal and I just feel like they're very strong animals that get taken advantage of because of their size. I wanted to show strength by making it seem as if the elephant is approaching something and coming out of grass. My goals was to show strength and draw the elephant realistically and actually put effort into my art. I believe I reached this goal and love how my zentangle came out. My overall thought of my project is that I absolutely loved it. I love the patterns I used and how my elephant came out. I learned that you should let your creativity flow and not overthink or your art won't come out as good. In the future, I hope my art will look even nicer and I'll put even more effort in my next art piece.
